Program Managers Nikita Varman and Kristal Castro worked on ASB for almost an entire year. They contacted trip community partners and housing partners, hired coordinators, organized donations, and ensured the week of ASB went as smoothly as possible.

"Planning ASB was one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of our undergraduate careers," said the duo. "With the guidance of past PMs and our director, we were able to develop a program that has meant so much to both of us personally and professionally into a reflection of ourselves and the CSC's values."

A program of such a size requires a great deal of work, but it was most certainly worth it in the end. "The thing that makes us most proud are the people that get involved," said Kristal and Nikita. "It is so surprising to watch people grow, embrace the communities they immerse themselves into, and really learn and embody the social justice values the world need." ASB is notably a program where students can find a group of people with whom they form strong friendships while learning how to engage on a deep level with an unfamiliar area.

ASB is a program that all students at BU should experience. "We think it is important because it's an opportunity for students to engage with peers that they might have never met otherwise and venture into communities that they may have never never visited otherwise," said Kristal and Nikita. "This is an experience that is immersive and really gives back to those who whole-heartedly and open-mindedly embrace new ideas."

On behalf of the entire Community Service Center, thank you to our hundreds of donors that helped make ASB 2019 possible. We received over $30,000 in donations, including money for scholarships, meals, supplies, activities and experiences, travel hosts, and group accommodations. Our programs rely on the support of generous people like you.
