LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR
Thirty years ago, a group of students formed The League, recognizing the importance of meaningful connections between Boston University students and our neighbors and neighborhoods. With the experience of years of growth, a few location changes, and a new name, the Community Service Center celebrates its 30th birthday stronger than ever.
This year, we enhanced our long-standing programs through strategic partnerships with organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters, facilitated our first student microlending initiative, awarded more scholarship monies than ever for our signature experiences, restructured our student leadership model with a deepened focus on collaboration, and reinvigorated the civic engagement mission of our programs.
We are grateful to the alumni and families who enable our students to engage in this work, to our community partners who dedicate their time to our communities and to educating our students, to Boston University students, faculty, and staff who dedicate their time to working in solidarity with our neighbors and neighborhoods, and for our student leaders who make our programs meaningful, challenging, and soulful.
The needs of our communities and world have changed over the years, and some days it seems like we disagree and discourse far more than we harmonize. What bonds us in this challenging landscape is a space that allows us to have and resolve these conflicts, to make mistakes and apologize, and to strengthen the skills and experience each of us needs to advance equitable access to respect and resources for all people and communities throughout our lives. Thank you for doing this thing with us.
In solidarity,
Zachary Hobbs, Director
